Exploding Mac!!

Posted by Carson       Trackback

I was up late last night playing with a new gadget when I happened across this new game show on Comedy Central called “Distraction”. I had seen previews and it looked pretty funny, it’s like a regular game show where you have to answer questions, except that while you’re trying to answer questions, you might be getting tazered or chewed on by a police attack dog or clipping clothespins all over your face.

However, it gets really interesting when someone wins, because they don’t just grab all their stuff and go home….they can still get ruined, big time. Take last night for example: The winner got a vespa scooter, an electic guitar, a plasma tv, some rice-a-roni, and what appeared to be either a 12″ Mac Powerbook or iBook. EXCEPT….he has to answer 4 more questions…and the prizes are all behind thick plexiglass…..and there are 5 of those Wil-E-Coyote style TNT detonators, each randomly wired to a prize….you see where this is going?

So this chump gets the first answer right…bummer. Then he botches the second question and picks detonator #3…KABOOM!!! No more scooter! Excellent…my evil grin appears as I lightly chuckle. Then he ruins himself on the third question and picks detonator #5…POP!..no more Rice-A-Roni. Damn..that was lame. At this point, I am thinking, “sweet jesus, please let him screw up this last question”. Fortunately, he does, and picks detonator #5 and……..KABLOOOOOEY! That Mac exploded like a over-ripe watermelon hitting a concrete bunker at mach 5! I nearly fell out of my seat I was laughing so hard, finger snapping and proclaiming GLUNK! GLUNK! GLUNK!

The look on that dude’s face was priceless.

At least he didn’t blow up the plasma TV.

Attention Late-Night Cartoon Junkies

Posted by Carson       Trackback

If you’re in the habit of watching cartoons late night, a la [adult swim], get ready for Robot Chicken. Cartoon Network has been airing teasers for their newest show for the last few weeks, and I can’t wait for the premiere. Looks like some fabulously demented stop animation, which should make for a good time. My favorite used to be in the early days of Mad TV, when they did some totally sweet claymation shorts of a “Cops” satire where the cops are chasing down delinquent make-believe characters such as the Pillsbury doughboy gone bad and other felonious characters.

Premeire of Robot Chicken is Sunday, February 20th at 11:30pm.

Knoblog Scoop: New Altoids Flavor

Since the original “curiously strong” Peppermint flavor, Altoids has introduced new varieties such as Cinnamon, Liquorice and Ginger. Now for the latest installment: English Tea flavored altoids.

I received a surprise beta of the new flavor on my desk when I arrived at work…I kid you not. Here is photographic evidence:

Google Maps

Google Maps is now in public beta. I’ve been using Google for the last year or so to punch in addresses, then I usually hit the Yahoo Maps link that google spits out, but I really like the interface for the new Google Maps much better. Sorry Yahoo!

The graphics for Google Maps really look sharp compared to the other mapping services that are currently available, and I really like that the map dynamically resizes as your browser window’s dimensions change. There is a slider for zooming in and out that is really easy to use and is very fast on the map redraw.

I think that the best feature of Google Maps is that you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the map around, and as you navigate with the arrow keys, it continuously redraws the map area. If you want to zoom in/out, you can hit the +/- keys and zoom on the fly with your keyboard. Bravo!

One major problem so far is that there seem to be chunks of the map missing when using Firefox. Here is an example:

Super-Exclusive Star Wars Collectible

Posted by Carson       Trackback

I was out shopping this weekend and just stumbled into a veritable “gold mine” of star wars collectibles. I quickly logged onto my website to check my online database of Star Wars collectibles. My initial suspicions were true: I had found the mother lode! One item after another was in my “must get” category of the database!! I feverishly grabbed as much memorabilia as I could, carefully placing them in my shopping cart, so as not to ruin the mint condition of the packaging. Giddy as a schoolgirl, I sauntered up to the register and checked out, then jumped into my car with my booty. I hermetically sealed my new treasures and placed them in their appropriate storage bins.

I have posted a picture of a select item from my Star Wars expedition for your viewing pleasure:
