Bluetooth DUN at 70mph
We’re on the way back from a short vacation to visit the folks, cruising up HWY101 at 70 miles an hour thru Paso..whilst connected to the net at 100kbps via bluetooth. Isn’t technology great? Getting bluetooth DUN to work on a Sprint Treo 650 isn’t exactly the easiest thing to accomplish, especially since I’ve been required to re-pair the Treo and Computer ever time I try to activate the connection. However, the payoff is worth it – the data connection is solid and seems to be running well at around 80-100kbps. Not exactly broadband, but it gets the job done. Reading email and RSS feeds actually feels quite zippy.
The neat part is that this is really only 2.5G mobile data. Verizon has already rolled out most of their 3G data network and Sprint is just getting started. Maybe next summer I will be surfing at 600kbps while on the road…suddenly those 5 hour road trips become a very productive surfing safari!
